Service Reflection

Service work and helping others is something that I have always liked to do, I find it very fulfilling, and achievement never came to me personally, but also when giving back to the community I live, am part of and have been brought up in.

Recently, I have helped migrants in an NGO, helped the elderly at a nursing home in my hometown, and planted trees in my hometown to make the area greener and cleaner. My family and I decided to give back to our neighbourhood community and planted trees in the park, which is in the middle of the neighbourhood. We planted around 100-150 trees in that park and now the neighborhood has cleaner air and is much greener and environmentally friendly because of this change.

I liked my time when I helped migrant workers in the NGO, as they have had very tough lives and reasons why as to they have to migrate, and also it felt fulfilling to give back to a community that consisted of people from my country and around.

Helping the elderly at the nursing home reminded me a lot of helping my grandparents, as I am quite close to them. Along with that, in my culture, we are brought up with giving the elderly a lot of respect, so it made it more fulfilling for me to give back to them in that aspect. Along with talking to them and understanding their life stories and experiences.
